If you have never before received a professional massage, you may be curious about what to expect. You may be a bit nervous or anxious. Many first-time massage recipients are hesitant, and therefore put off scheduling an appointment, even if they have been recommended to a therapist, or have received a gift certificate.
On your first visit with me, you will be asked to complete an intake form, in which you will provide information about your physical health, medications taken, specific areas of your body that are troubling you, and additional pertinent information. This helps me understand what you need and want from the session, to make sure there are no contraindications for massage, and to assure that your time on the table is as effective as possible.
Once the form is complete, I will discuss the information with you, and make sure that we are both clear as to how the session will go. I will listen to your wishes and expectations, and answer any questions you may have.
I will then step out of the room, as you disrobe and get on the table.
Massage is normally done without clothes, and with a drape covering you. Only those areas being massaged are uncovered. However, you may undress only to your comfort level. No client is ever asked to do anything that is uncomfortable. Further, during the intake process, you may specify any parts of your body that you DO NOT want undraped, massaged, or touched. Your privacy, modesty, and comfort are of the utmost importance. It is vital that you be completely comfortable. Otherwise, the massage is of limited benefit to you. Any concerns about draping or specific areas of the body should be discussed with me prior to beginning the session.
Some massage modalities and a number of spa treatments, by their nature, require less draping – that is, that more areas of the body are uncovered. These will be fully explained to you beforehand, and the choice is yours.
My massage studio is warm, safe, comfortable, and soothing. Lighting is kept low, and soft music is played during the session, all to make you relax more quickly, and make the session all the more effective.
During the massage or spa treatment, I will check in with you often, to gauge your comfort with the amount of pressure used, the manner and location of touch, and your general condition. You should feel free to ask me to adjust what I am doing at any time. You are in control of the session.
When the session is completed, I will leave the room, and you may get up from the table at your own pace, and get dressed. Should you desire, a shower is available to you.
That’s it. Simple, straightforward, no hassle. I will do my utmost to make sure your first massage experience is easy and pleasant.
Hopefully this has answered all the questions you have, and has allayed any fears or trepidations. If not, please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or concerns. It will be my pleasure to hear from you.
I truly believe that you will enjoy your massage with me, and that will be happy you came.
